Martins Adventures 24 Days of Martin Day 02 400x600 - 24 Days of Martin - Day 02: Frosty the Snowman

24 Days of Martin – Day 2:  Santiago and Frosty the Snowman

Martin loves to make new friends. Today, Martin was helping Lorena with PT again, and met a “frosty” kind of guy in the lobby. His name is Santiago. We aren’t sure where Santiago is from. It doesn’t snow here in Mazatlán, so we know he is not a local. We think he may be from Chile, but we have not had enough conversations with him to know for sure. Lorena has PT three times a week, so Martin will be able to get all the tea from Santiago before Christmas!

The original Frosty was based upon the song “Frosty the Snowman” written in 1950 by Walter “Jack” Rollins and Steve Nelson. It was recorded by Gene Autry and Cass County Boys, also in 1950.  Jimmy Durante also recorded his own version of “Frosty The Snowman” in 1950.  Both versions peaked at number 7 on the US Pop Singles chart.  Gene Autry’s version peaked at number 4 on the US Country Singles chart.

The song’s lyrics describe the adventures of Frosty, a snowman who comes to life after a group of children place a magical silk hat on his head. Frosty laughs and plays with the children until the hot sun threatens to melt him. After leading them through the village streets and running afoul of a traffic policeman, Frosty says goodbye to the children, telling him he will return. The big difference between the two versions is in the Gene Autry version, when Frosty says goodbye to the children, he says he’ll be back again someday, while in the Jimmy Durante version, he says he’ll be back on Christmas Day.

An animated Christmas Special was created for television in 1969.  Based on the original lyrics, it was first televised on Dec 7, 1969 on CBS.  For 55 years, Frosty The Snowman aired annually on CBS during the Christmas and Holiday season.  In 2024, NBC acquired the rights to televise the Christmas Special and continue to air it each year.

In addition to Frosty the Snowman, Frosty has been seen in several sequels:
* Frosty’s Winter Wonderland
* Rudolph and Frosty’s Christmas in July
* Frosty Returns
* The Legend of Frosty the Snowman

Martin is looking forward to his next PT session with Lorena. He is excited about learning more about Santiago. As always, Martin promises new friendships and adventures that await just in time for the holiday season.
