Martin decided today was the day to tell me about his pouch.

He wasn’t quite sure he was using the right words—or maybe I wasn’t understanding him correctly. From what I gathered, it’s a “metamorphosis pouch.” Like a cocoon. He said he’d be in there for 10 days… which, oddly enough, lands us on May 5th. Curious timing.

He assured me it’s very cozy inside and said it’s totally fine if we take him around with us like usual—errands, brunch, friend hangouts. He even said if we ever got nervous, we could just leave the pouch next to his shelf and he’d rest there instead. So considerate, that one.

He wanted to go to the beach before going inside his pouch, something about hearing the ocean’s song.  So we went to the beach and then came back home where he crawled into his pouch.  After pulling the drawstrings tight, he gave us one trill of reassurance and then went quiet.

But seriously—what do dragons morph into? He already has wings. He has horns. He’s small but mighty, and occasionally smoky.

He did mention something about this on his birthday… but he had cake in his mouth, and I didn’t quite catch it.

Guess we’ll find out on May 5th.
