How every book in the series pairs a value, a thinking skill and a learning style — chapter by chapter.

How the Badge System Works

Every book in the Martin's Adventures series is built around three things: a value, a thinking skill, and a learning style — one of each for every chapter.

As Martin experiences each day's adventure, he demonstrates a value — things like Curiosity, Gratitude, Kindness, or Perseverance — drawn from a set of 25 used across the series. A child earns this Story Badge simply by reading.

Each chapter also pairs with a hands-on quest, an activity that practices one of 8 core learning skills: Critical Thinking, Communication, Collaboration, Creative Thinking, Focus and Self Control, Problem Solving, Adaptability, and Self Directed Learning. Four of these align directly with the 4 C's framework widely used in education standards today. Completing the quest earns a child this Quest Badge.

Every quest also leans on one of 8 learning styles — Visual, Kinesthetic, Auditory, Logical, Reading and Writing, Social, Verbal, or Solitary — so that across a full book, every child encounters activities that match how they learn best, alongside chances to stretch into other styles.

A single additional badge, the IRL Badge, is earned any time a child takes a quest out into the real world: mailing an actual letter, baking an actual recipe, building an actual snowman. This is the same badge every time, and it can be earned repeatedly across the series.

From Badges to Rewards

This structure is the foundation of the Guild Quest Reward system. As children collect badges across a book, they build toward milestone rewards, and the full Story Badge and Skill Badge sets can each be completed for a special series-wide badge.
